Drum Loop 1B

Since this was my first loop, I really over did it at first with sounds. The beginning was actually made on my second time. To start off this loop, I listened to some of the pre-made loops and decided that I liked the sound of the bongo-like drums. The closest I could come were the toms, and these are used throughout it. The fill in the middle has a soft woodblock sound which I like. I wanted to contrast the “A” part and made the "B" part lighter and almost bell-like with a simple quarter note pattern. The fill after this was fun to make with the main structure made of claps. I’m not sure how many people end on a fill, but if the loop looped, the “A” part is too long to handle. Enjoy and please critique!

  1. Your piece of music, in my opinion, seems to have an African drum sort of base to it. The begining sounds very dark and mysterious. Which is a great contrast to the the tamborine/bells near the ends which leaves the listener happy. These two diverse sounds could have a very negitive effect if not put together well. But I wouldn't worry about that, because you did it, you found just tje right blend of "light and dark."

  2. I agree with Tina for the must part. It sounds like it is a really African song. I like the drums that you use and the tambourines that you use. When you transfer from one loop to the other is flowed well. When I listen to your second project it seems like you been making songs for a bit. Its seems that you got the hand of doing this so keep it up.

  3. Normally, tom toms don't do well in a drum groove. They are reserved mostly for fills because they have pitch (unlike a snare/kick/hi hat combo) but the slower tempo you have selected here makes it work. The tambourine adds a delightful brightness towards the end, but it's entrance is unexpected. To remedy this consider having it play in the first pattern, but in a background part- you know, keep it simple. Then after the fill you have, jump into the bright part where it can shine, but not sound out of context.
